A scene constant
The fact that the Swedish band around mastermind Peter Tägtgren was originally formed as Seditious is only a side note. Because already in the early days the band changes the name to HYPOCRISY, which is immortalized in the metal history books more than 30 years later. Also remarkable: The debut album "Penetralia" was released in 1992 by the then still young label Nuclear Blast Records - they are still loyal to this record company today.
The breakthrough
Early on HYPOCRISY gain a certain status in the death metal scene, also because they tour more often. In 1993 "Osculum Obscenum" is released, in 1994 "The Fourth Dimension" and in 1996 "The Abduction". After that it seems as if the band wants to immortalize themselves in the history books and not add any more chapters. Because garnished with the appropriate title, "The Final Chapter" is released in 1997, which should actually be seen as a conclusion - Tägtgren wants to concentrate more on PAIN. But spurred on by the many positive reactions to the cult album, the band's history is fortunately continued, and so the self-titled "Hypocrisy" even jumps into the German charts in 1999.
Further successes and releases
In the following years the Swedes develop more and more into a cult act. Scene classics such as "Into The Abyss", "Catch 22" and "The Arrival" are created, before 2005 sees an unusually long break between studio albums after the release of "Virus". Only in 2009 "A Taste of Extreme Divinity" is released, before "End Of Disclosure" marks the longest phase without an album release. It's not until 2021 that the Alien enthusiasts report back and unleash "Worship" on hungry humanity!
