BATUSHKA: A shining star in the black sky

Almost out of nowhere, a new star flashed on the dark horizon in 2015. BATUSHKA's debut album "Litourgiya" shakes up the black metal scene and creates a buzz before the name can even spread. On YouTube the listener numbers skyrocket and quickly the first edition of the album is sold out. An absolute explosion, which is to spread beyond the genre borders from now on. The occult charm, which is already promised by the artwork, is also conjured up by the band on stage. At the Summer Breeze Open Air and later in the year at De Mortem Et Diabolum in Berlin they can be seen for the first time in Germany to present their ritual. Clad in monk's robes, they perform a unique black mass live, which, wrapped in incense, exerts a magical attraction on the listeners. Borrowing from the Russian Orthodox Church, the setting is breathtaking. No wonder that thereupon the demand for BATUSHKA merchandise increases considerably.

Broken by success?

However, after a successful period, BATUSHKA has a few bones to pick. It comes to quarrels and a partly public mudslinging. From now on there are two bands with the same name. One of them, the one we are talking about here, presents a great successor with "Hospodi". Again the atmosphere and the occult charm are in the foreground. But more oppressively produced than the debut, it unfolds a tremendous punch and catapults the black metallers to the top of numerous "album of the year" lists. The newly formed band continues to deliver live as well, playing numerous shows that rival the early days.
